DEREK MAIN, age 41, a resident of Dallas, formerly of Grapevine, and Irving for 30 years, died Tuesday, June 4, 2013. Born August 8, 1971 in Irving, he was the son of Norman A. Main, Jr. and Jannie Davis Main. Derek grew up in Irving. He was an instructor at North Lake College since 2006, and recently received his PhD from U.T. Arlington. Derek loved teaching and he loved science and being able to inspire others. He was the director of the Arlington Archosaur Site. Preceded in death by his father, survivors include his mother of Irving; brother, Darren Main of Fort Worth; fiancée, Deborah Nixon of Dallas; uncles and aunts, John Davis of Willis, Freeman and Virginia Pliler of Conroe; and several cousins. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Saturday at Donnelly’s Colonial Funeral Home, 606 West Airport Freeway in Irving. Service is 4:30 p.m., Sunday, June 9 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2505 West Northgate Drive in Irving. Burial service 3:30 p.m., Monday at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens, 1413 East Irving Blvd in Irving.
