Sybil Bernice Holder Grisham went home to the Lord, peacefully January 30, 2011.
Sybil was born January 22, 1918, in Cross Plains, Eastland County, Texas, to the late John Jackson Holder and Vernie Ann Wood Holder. Preceding her in death were her husband, Nathan Everett (Mike) Grisham and her five siblings.
A loving and enthusiastic mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many, she was known for her wonderful stories about her beloved husband and family. She was the Deputy District Clerk of Eastland County when she met and married Mike in 1943. After his service in World War II, he served as District Attorney of Eastland County. The family moved to Irving in 1950, where Mike continued his law practice and became a founding member of the Irving Symphony Orchestra and played first violin. Devoted to her family and gardening, Sybil loved to talk about Mike, their life together, as well as her children, grandchildren, and her great-granddaughters. Sybil was active in a variety of different civic organizations such as the Irving Heritage Society and the Board of Realtors where she served as president. At times during board luncheons, she was told to put lots of money in a brag jar for each time she had to talk about her family. She worked as a real estate broker for many years and had recently renewed her license after taking a class in the summer of 2010. She was also a devoted member of the Criswell Bible Class at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.
She is survived by her children Ann Grisham Boone and husband Daniel Boone Jr. and Robert Holder (Bob) Grisham and wife Nancy; four grandchildren Robert Nathan Grisham II, Daniel Kade Boone, Julie Elizabeth Grisham, and Matthew Grisham Boone; two great-granddaughters Ashley Ann and Isabella Rosario Boone; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held at the First Baptist Church of Dallas at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 7. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Eastland Cemetery in Eastland. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Texas Chapter of the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, c/o Sunshine Cottage, 603 E. Hildebrand Ave., San Antonio, Texas, 78212.
The family wishes to thank the Baylor University Medical Centers in Irving and Dallas for their loving care. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
