Margie Dean Dobbs left us to join her husband Roy in heaven on May 8, 2010. Dean was 82 years old and lived in Irving, Texas, for 25 years. She passed peacefully in her home Saturday surrounded by family. Dean was born in Unionville, Missouri, but her family moved to Beaumont, Texas, where she was on the drill team in high school. She met Roy Dobbs at the First Baptist Church in Beaumont, and they later moved to Anahuac, Texas, where they raised their family. Once her children were all in school, Dean attended Lamar University where she completed her degree in home economics. She was a substitute teacher in the Houston Independent School District and sold real estate. She and Roy moved to Scotland for several years in the 1980s where he managed offshore operations for Sun Oil Company. Active in the Baptist church, it is said that Roy told Dean to put a "No" sign by the phone, so that she would stop agreeing to work on every volunteer project. She was a mother who could always be depended on and always expected her children and grandchildren to "do your best." She held a grandparents camp many summers for the grandkids. Dean loved the song "I Hope You Dance," wearing a hat to church on Sunday, growing roses, and watching her Dallas Cowboys. Dean is survived by her four children Linda Dobbs Willis and her husband Ronnie, Carol Beyerstein, Bill Dobbs and his wife Jean, and Susan Curling and her husband Patrick. She is also survived by eight grandchildren Amanda Willis, Jason and Lisa Beyerstein; Sarah and Spencer Dobbs; Pat, Shelagh, and Emily Curling, and one great-grandson Carter. Dean was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Edward Dobbs. Visitation will be held 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday at Donnelly's Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at Donnelly's Funeral Home Chapel with interment at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Irving Baptist Fellowship Church, 2201 W. Shady Grove Irving, TX 75060.
